PCC MISSION MOMENTS World AIDS Day (December 1)

AIDS is now the leading cause of death among teenagers in sub-Saharan Africa, a region still devastated by the HIV epidemic. These deaths can be avoided through prevention and treatment, education, and sexual and reproductive healthcare. The Presbyterian Church in Canada, through Presbyterian World Service & Development, supports HIV and AIDS programs that fight stigma and discrimination, teach and equip people to prevent the spread and the transmission between mother and child, and provide home based care and medications to those living with the disease. On World AIDS day, we live in Christ’s hope for a world without AIDS and pray for those whose lives remain affected.

PCC MISSION MOMENTS Universal Children’s Day (November 20)

Presbyterian World Service & Development is committed to protecting the rights of children, including the right to food that helps them grow and thrive. A lack of food threatened the life of one-year-old Kai when violent conflict near their village forced his family to flee their home in South Sudan. After they’d walked for days, Kai was showing signs of severe acute malnutrition. Fortunately, when they arrived at a UN protection camp, the little boy was admitted to a feeding centre that is part of a PWS&D-supported nutrition treatment program with Canadian Foodgrains Bank. After two months Kai was discharged, having grown healthier, stronger and better able to face each day while waiting for peace to be restored in South Sudan.
