Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

1You were dead through the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. 3 All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, doing the will of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else, 4 but God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we may walk in them.

Hymn: Praise, my soul, the King of heaven #407
1. Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet thy tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who like me his praise should sing? Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the everlasting King.

2. Praise him for his grace and favour to our fathers in distress;
praise him, still the same forever, slow to chide and swift to bless; praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, glorious in his faithfulness.

3. Father-like he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes: praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, widely as his mercy flows.

4. Frail as summer’s flower we flourish; blows the wind and it is gone, but, while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on: praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the high eternal One.

5. Angels, help us to adore him, ye behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him, dwellers all in time and space, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise with us the God of grace.

 Hymn: Shine, Jesus, shine (Lord, the light of your love is shining) #376
1. Lord, the light of your love is shining in the midst of the darkness, shining; Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us.
Set us free by the truth you now bring us. Shine on me; shine on me.
Chorus:
Shine, Jesus, shine; fill this land with the Father’s glory;
blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow;
flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light!

2. Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by your blood I may enter your brightness. Search me, try me, consume all my darkness. Shine on me; shine on me.
Chorus

3.  As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness, ever-changing from glory to glory: mirrored here may our lives tell your story. Shine on me; shine on me.

Sermon:   “The Glorified King”

Hymn: Thine be the glory #258
1. Thine be the glory, risen, conquering son, endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won; angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, kept the folded grave clothes, where thy body lay.
Refrain~
Thine be the glory, risen, conquering son;
endless is the victory thou o’er death hast won.

2. Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
lovingly he greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
let the church with gladness hymns of triumph sing,
for her Lord now liveth; death has lost its sting.

3. No more we doubt thee, glorious prince of life;
life is nought without thee: aid us in our strife;
make us more than conquerors, through thy deathless love:
bring us safe through Jordan to thy home above.

Hymn: All glory, laud and honour #214
1. All glory, laud and honour to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!
Thou art the King of Israel, thou David’s royal son,
who in the Lord’s name comest, the King and blessed one.

2. All glory, laud and honour to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!
The people of the Hebrews with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems before thee we present.

3. All glory, laud and honour to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!
To thee before thy passion they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted, our melody we raise.

4. All glory, laud and honour to thee, Redeemer, King,
to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring!
Thou didst accept their praises, accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest, thou good and gracious king.

Welcome & Announcements

The Call to Worship: Psalm 34:1-3
I will bless the Lord at all times;
    His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the Lord;
    The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
    And let us exalt His name together.

Invocation Prayer

Hymn: As pants the hart #26
1. As pants the hart for cooling streams
When heated in the chase,
So longs my soul, O God, for Thee,
And Thy refreshing grace.

2. For Thee, my God, the living God,
My thirsty soul doth pine;
O when shall I behold Thy face,
Thou majesty divine?

3. Why restless, why cast down, my soul?
Trust God, Who will employ Sure aid for thee,
and change these sighs
To thankful hymns of joy.

4. God of my strength, how long shall I,
Like one forgotten, mourn,
Forlorn, forsaken and exposed
To my oppressor’s scorn?

5. Why restless, why cast down, my soul?
Hope still, and thou shalt sing
Praise to thy God, the living God,
Thy health’s eternal spring.

Prayer of Adoration, Confession and Assurance of Pardon

Children’s Time

Hymn: My faith looks up to Thee #677
1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine: Now hear me when I pray;
Take all my guilt away; O let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire; As Thou hast died for me,
O may my love to Thee Pure, warm and changeless be,
A living fire.

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide; Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away, nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold sullen stream Shall o’er me roll, Blest Saviour, then, in love, Fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul.

Scripture Reading: Exodus 16:1-15

Sermon:   “Grumbling or Patience?”

Hymn: Spirit of God, descend upon my heart #382
1. Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;
Wean it from earth, through all its pulses move;
Stoop to my weakness, mighty as Thou art,
And make me love Thee as I ought to love.

2. I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,
No sudden rending of the veil of clay,
No angel visitant, no opening skies;
But take the dimness of my soul away.

3. Hast Thou not bid me love Thee, God and King?
All, all Thine own, soul, heart and strength and mind;
I see Thy cross, there teach my heart to cling:
O let me seek Thee, and O let me find.

4. Teach me to feel that Thou art always nigh;
Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,
To face the rising doubt, the rebel sigh;
Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

5. Teach me to love Thee as Thine angels love,
One holy passion filling all my frame:
The baptism of the heaven-descended Dove,
My heart an altar, and Thy love the flame.

Doxology & Dedication

Hymn: Will Your anchor hold #744
1. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
(Refrain) We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

2. Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers roar and the reef is near?
While the surges rave and the wild winds blow,
Shall the angry waves then your bark o’erflow?

3. Will your eyes behold through the morning light
The city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,
When life’s storms are past for evermore?

Benediction
