The Call to Worship:
The Lord speaks and says: “Because you cling to me in love, I will deliver you.  I will protect you because you know my name.”
Our God says: “When you call to me, I will answer you; I will be with you in trouble.  I will rescue you and honor you.  With long life I will satisfy you and show you my salvation.”
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will say to the Lord, “My Refuge and my Fortress.”
They who abide in the shadow of the Almighty will say to the Lord, “My God in Whom I trust.”

The Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer
Father, You spoke to us from Your word about contentment.  We have all the reason to be grateful, because each day we live with all the blessings in our personal lives, our families and our church family.  Bless us in all of our ministries.  May through us people’s lives be changed, that our praise be given to You.

Father, we bring before You this morning        and        . May their needs be answered in Jesus.

We continue to pray as our Lord taught us when we say…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Food Bank Donations – the wheelbarrow is now in place at the back of the Sanctuary. We are collecting non-perishable food items for local families in need. Norma Leith will be delivering your donations to the Langley Food Bank.

Epiphany – The manifestation of God in Christ. This centres on the visit of the magi (Matthew 2:1-12); continues with Jesus’ baptism and first miracle; peaks on Transfiguration Sunday (last Sunday after Epiphany) when Jesus is seen in the light of glory.

We symbolize this with three stars/crosses. The three stars are symbolic of the prophetic visit of the three wise men. The central star/cross represents the Epiphany Star, the star of Jesus’ birth. The white colour symbolizes purity, holiness, faith and light.
Jesus is the light of the world!

Welcome & Announcements

The Call to Worship:      Psalm 19:1-6                               (Responsively)
The heavens proclaim the glory of God
     And the firmament shows forth the work of his hands.
Day unto day takes up the story
     And night unto night makes known the message.
No speech, no word, no voice is heard, yet their span goes forth through all the earth,
     Their words to the utmost bounds of the world.
There he has placed a tent for the sun;
     It comes forth as a bridegroom coming from his tent,
Rejoices like a champion to run his course.
     At the end of the sky is the rising of the sun;
To the furthest end of the sky is its course.
     There is nothing concealed from its burning heat.

 Hymn: Glory be to God the Father                                                  #298

Prayer of Adoration, Confession and Assurance of Pardon

Hymn: God of earth and planets
1. God of earth and planets ranging outer space:
We in silent wonder glimpse Thy might and grace.

2. God of worlds and atoms, each a masterpiece:
Deepest probes of science awe and faith increase.

3. God of flower and ocean, fragrance, beauty, power:
Of Thy love and bounty share we every hour.

Children’s Time

Scripture Reading:                                Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:1-17

Sermon:   “What is Mankind?”                                                          Psalm 8:4

Hymn: To God be the Glory (Original Words)                                 #350
1. To God be the glory! great things he hath done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son, who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Refrain ~
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear his voice;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice.
Oh come to the Father through Jesus the Son, and give him the glory; great things he hath done.

2. Oh perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives!
Refrain

3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer and higher and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see!
