Welcome & Announcements

The Call to Worship:
My heart is steadfast O God.
We will sing and make music with our soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!
We will awaken the dawn.
I will praise You, Lord, among the nations;
We will sing of You among the peoples.
For great is Your love, higher than the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be over all the earth.
O give thanks to the LORD, for the LORD is good;
God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Hymn: The Steadfast Love of the Lord                                        #20

Prayer of Adoration & Confession
Holy God, Your power fills the universe with light and love. Your tender hand embraces those who are suffering and wounded. You welcome strangers and care for the lonely.

We are awed by the amazing magnitude of Your compassion. You welcome each of us and guide us to our eternal Promised Land through Christ. Our guide and our protector, as we gather today in Your holy house, meet us where we are. Speak to us in ways that we understand. Come to us, O God, in our time of worship.

Our Redeemer and Lord Jesus, renew and refresh us with Your gentle and selfless Spirit. We confess that we prefer our old lives; we nurture grudges, and we are reluctant to welcome or forgive one another. In Your loving kindness, have mercy upon us and move among us so that we might live together with grace. And now as we confess our weaknesses and failures in our silent prayer, forgive our sins.

Welcome & Announcements

The Call to Worship:
The Light has been shining.
The Light of Epiphany has been shining.
We have seen the coming of the kings.
We have seen the coming of John the Baptist.
We have seen the coming of Jesus.
But the season of Epiphany is almost over.
Today with the Transfiguration, we see Jesus clearly.
But in Lent the Lord is hidden in shadow.
Some will follow Him.
Some will mock Him.
Some will be healed by Him.
Some will crucify Him.
All: Let the light shine while it may.  Let us all in our worship together walk to that light.

Stewardship Banner – (Hanging in the Nave)
As the church is the gathering place and the starting point for many of our stewardship activities, it is found in the centre of the hanging, surrounded by words which remind us that God’s Word is to be central to all we do.

Around the church are arranged symbols. Each represents an area of stewardship, areas we encounter in our walk with God: prayer, world missions, the environment, spreading God’s Word, fellowship, and the sharing of meals. Along with skills, time, money, love and companionship, music, welcoming others, and outreach into the community.

Confirmation Vine Banner – (Hanging in the Chancel)
Symbolism: The base of the serpentine vine contains the work of the Holy Spirit. At confirmation, the dove renews the flame of faith that springs from the vessel containing the blue waters of baptism. The middle loop, the Christian continues to grow in their faith through communion (chalice & wafer) and extends to others the love of Christ (cross & hook equals fishers of men). The top portion, the Bible offers the promise of new life with God in heaven after death (butterfly).

With gratitude – Our warmest “thank you” to Debbie Margueratt for taking the time each season to arrange the banners. We are blessed by your years of dedication to Langley Presbyterian Church and our church family.
