February 19th Service Arranged by Rev. Willem van de Wall

February 19, 2023

We welcome you to this service of worship on the Lord’s Day. This morning’s service will be a laity service.

Welcome & Announcements

The Call to Worship:
The Light has been shining.
The Light of Epiphany has been shining.
We have seen the coming of the kings.
We have seen the coming of John the Baptist.
We have seen the coming of Jesus.
But the season of Epiphany is almost over.
Today with the Transfiguration, we see Jesus clearly.
But in Lent the Lord is hidden in shadow.
Some will follow Him.
Some will mock Him.
Some will be healed by Him.
Some will crucify Him.
All: Let the light shine while it may.  Let us all in our worship together walk to that light.

Hymn: Fairest Lord Jesus                                                         #375

Prayer of Adoration, Confession and Assurance of Pardon
Gracious loving Father, we praise You for each day You grant to us, each day You are crowning us with love and compassion.  Sometimes it’s far above our understanding that You love us so much and that You never withhold Your blessings.  With this time of worship our prayer is that in all we do You will receive praise and glory through us.  All these things we pray knowing that You brought us together to bestow Your blessings upon us.  We praise and glorify Your holy name.  Amen.

Doxology & Dedication
Prayer of Dedication:
Heavenly Father, each day we live from the abundance You make available to us.  Please forgive us for the times we take Your blessings for granted.  Receive our offering for the expansion of Your kingdom work.  May it bring change in Your world where it’s so much needed.  Amen.

The Prayers of the People & The Lord’s Prayer
Ask for prayers for people and then pray…Loving Heavenly Father, we thank You that You love us far more than what we can ever imagine and that You will do more through us than what we can think.  Help us to be available when You need us to be Your instruments.  Bless us, the family of Langley Presbyterian Church to make a difference in our community.  Give us a clear vision of what You expect from us.  Thank you that we can bring before You at this time          and         . Answer all of their needs as only You can do. Father, we continue to pray as Your Son taught us when we say…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Hymn: My faith looks up to Thee                                               #677

Langley Presbyterian Church Announcements

Informational Meeting – There will a brief information meeting with the congregation immediately following the Benediction.  As you will recall, Rev Lydia Bae will be meeting with Session & the congregation on Saturday, Feb 25 & preaching for the call to Langley Presbyterian on Sunday, February 26.  Session wants to give all the details of the weekend to the congregation.

Food Bank Donations – The wheelbarrow is now in place at the back of the Sanctuary. We are collecting non-perishable food items for local families in need. Norma Leith will be delivering your donations to the Langley Food Bank.

Stewardship Banner – (Hanging in the Nave)
As the church is the gathering place and the starting point for many of our stewardship activities, it is found in the centre of the hanging, surrounded by words which remind us that God’s Word is to be central to all we do.

Around the church are arranged symbols. Each represents an area of stewardship, areas we encounter in our walk with God: prayer, world missions, the environment, spreading God’s Word, fellowship, and the sharing of meals. Along with skills, time, money, love and companionship, music, welcoming others, and outreach into the community.

Dates to Note:
February 20th – Family Day / World Day of Social Justice
February 21st – Shrove Tuesday
February 22nd – Ash Wednesday
