Library Ministry of Langley Presbyterian Church

1. Purpose and Mission

The LPC Library exists to support the ministry of Langley Presbyterian Church by collecting, organizing, and providing access to quality resources that help the congregation connect with God, His Word, His people, and His world.

As a ministry of Langley Presbyterian Church, the LPC Library provides materials that are in harmony with the doctrines of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the Westminster Confession of Faith.


2. Library Access and Locations

Online Catalogue

The LPC Library catalogue is available through LibraryThing.

Users may access the catalogue online to search for available books, DVDs, and other resources.

The catalogue may also be accessed through the laptop computer located on the Library Cabinet or by using the QR code provided in the library.

Searching the Catalogue

To search the library collection:

  1. Open the LPC Library catalogue.

  2. Select “All Collections.”

  3. Use the “Search this library” box to search by title, author, or subject.


Library Locations

Main Library
Located at the back of the Sanctuary (upstairs).

Youth Library and Toddler Books
Located adjacent to the Main Library (upstairs).

Children’s Library
Located downstairs in the Children’s Ministry Sunday School area.


3. Collection Policy

The LPC Library collection includes books, DVDs, and other resources for adults, youth, and children.

Materials selected for the collection should:

  • Complement the mission of Langley Presbyterian Church.

  • Reflect a Christian viewpoint.

  • Be in harmony with the doctrines of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and the Westminster Confession of Faith.

The LPC Library seeks to maintain a collection that is:

Christian • Informative • Useful


4. Donations Policy

Donated materials are reviewed according to the same criteria used for materials purchased for the LPC Library.

If donated materials are not suitable for the collection, donors may choose to:

  • Have the materials returned, or

  • Allow the LPC Library to donate the materials to another appropriate organization, such as Bibles for Missions or another Christian thrift organization.


5. Borrowing Policy

Eligibility

Library materials may be borrowed by:

  • Individuals listed in the Church Directory, or

  • Individuals who provide current contact information to the Library.

Children under the age of 12 may borrow materials with the permission and responsibility of a parent or other adult.


Library Hours

The LPC Library is available:

  • Sunday mornings before and after worship services.

  • During the week through the self-serve check-out procedure provided in the library.


Loan Periods

  • Books and DVDs may be borrowed for two weeks.

  • Renewals are available upon request.

The Librarian may contact patrons regarding overdue materials by email or telephone.


6. Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Materials

The LPC Library does not charge fines for overdue materials.

Borrowers are responsible for providing replacement costs for materials that are:

  • Lost, or

  • Irreparably damaged.


7. LPC Library Team Responsibilities

The LPC Library Team is responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the library, including:

  • Selecting and purchasing materials.

  • Processing and cataloguing resources.

  • Assisting library users.

  • Recommending and reviewing materials.

  • Maintaining the collection.

  • Communicating library information to the congregation.


8. Accountability and Oversight

The LPC Librarian reports to the Minister and Session of Langley Presbyterian Church on a consultation and approval basis.

Session approval is required for major changes, including:

  • Budget requests.

  • Collection placement.

  • Special requests.

  • Clarification regarding the suitability of donated materials.
